Alessio Silvestrin has created various art works based on the first volume of sheet music of Béla Bartók's piano etudes "Mikrokosmos". The drawings of doors first found inside the sketchbook are developed further as a work of animation and also printed in the form of patchwork art.
The doors, as the piano music progresses in steps, slowly transform themselves into rather abstract and complex shapes. Some elements of this animation have also been employed as stage images for the dance piece "Mikrokosmos".
The works introduced in the context of "Mikrokosmos" have been developed from the visual elements of the performace "Bluebeard's Doors", based on Béla Bartók's one act opera "Bluebeard's Castle".
