Bruno Mathez is a french visual artist, who has always investigated the use of visuals within other art forms since the beginning of his career as a VJ (VJ Hybreed) in Nice (France) in 2002. Before moving to London in 2005 he worked for a theatre company and created shows performed around a projection screen, and worked on audiovisual projects with artists from different backgrounds, mainly for performances but as well for filmings and installations.
Since he moved in the UK some of his work includes the video creation of a multimedia opera in march 2007, "The Girl Who Liked to Be Thrown Around", by Madestrange Company, the video creation of dance show “Bäzarre”, shown in London and Karlstadt (Sweden) in 2007 and the direction of the dance video “do you remember that feeling of being small” with Being Small Dance Company( you can find this video here: http://www.vimeo.com/3593539). The video has been shown in prestigious international dance festivals and led the company to get a bursary from the Monaco Dance Forum in 2006, as well as a filming residency in Tunisia in 2008. Bruno’s been making music videos with Genertik, a music video production company, since 2006. He is the audiovisual manager of the event organiser Yes Boss Music in London, and has been the audiovisual manager for Cybersonica and Future of Sounds events between 2006 and 2008, which showcase the use of new technologies in performances and installations. He is a resident VJ at the Proud Galleries in Camden, London.
He’s also part of The Sancho Plan since january 2008. The Sancho Plan create new interactive entertaining experiences for the 21st century, their performances and interactive installations have been shown around the world. (www.thesanchoplan.com) Our latest installation to date is “The Jungle Imperator” an immersive stereoscopic 3D interactive game that we made for Ars Electronica in Linz, Austria, and who is actually shown in their newly built Ars Electronica Center.
One of Bruno's recent works is the installation PHOTOPHONICS which is the first result of his video-projection mapping experiments, that explore the use of 3d projection surfaces. Mike Blow has given a sonic identity to this audiovisual design by placing light sensors which generate sounds. The architectural elements of the dark room are being lit by a musical beam of light. A fascinating visual score is played, transforming the space into an hypnotic audiovisual experience.
